Sandwood Bay

Is this not the most stunning beach ever..... a 3 mile trek across the moor, winding through the lochs you are rewarded with the most wonderful view of this beach!

After Sandwood, we drove back to Inverness via Ullapool. The sun was setting and it really was one of the most dramatic and scenic journeys i have ever made. Also, i have just finished reading a book called the Kerracher Man which was about a family who lived in a house inaccessible by car- they had to either sail from Kylesku or trek 11/2 miles over a hill to get home! So we drove past their bay which was interesting.

Our experience was slightly spoiled however by a stop in a local hotel. Alex and i ordered our food and sat back in the tired old room to enjoy the view over loch Clash but when our food arrived it is fair to say that i would not have served it to my dog.

This is what we are not very good at in the Highlands- i mean how dissapointing for a tourist to stop in this stunning location and be served up such an excuse for a dinner. With all this fresh fish on their doorstep there is just no excuse. The Three Chimney's in Skye have certainly cashed in on the lack of quality establishments in the Skye area and business is booming with people visiting Skye purely to visit the restaurant- Sutherland needs to learn from this.
