Well its almost time for the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale. Back in April this year the Lighthouse (the Scottish centre for architecture and design) announced that Scotland was to have presence at Venice. A competition was to be held to design a 'Gathering Space' - a temporary structure that would draw people in and would communicate Scotland's strong presence in the International Architecture scene.
Gareth Hoskins Architects won the competition with such a simple idea- a structure which comprises of a set of stairs, allowing people to informally sit and chat on or wander into the more formal lecture space under the stairs........ the simple ones are the best- fantastic idea!

The 11th International Architecture Exhibition is entitled 'Out There: Architecture Beyond Building' and is directed by Aaron Betsky. It will take place from 14 September to 23 November 2008.
